Sweet Summery Goodness!

Some random summery images from my photo library.

Let the good times roll!

Peace like a river..

I read this and found it amazingly beautiful and encouraging. Bits and pieces taken from here.

In 1871, Horatio Spafford, a prosperous lawyer and devout Presbyterian church elder and his wife, Anna, were living comfortably with their four young daughters in Chicago. In that year the great fire broke out and devastated the entire city. Two years later the family decided to vacation with friends in Europe. At the last moment Horatio was detained by business, and Anna and the girls went on ahead, sailing on the ocean liner S.S. Ville de Havre. On November 21, 1873, the liner was rammed amid ship by a British vessel and sank within minutes. Anna was picked up unconscious on a floating spar, but the four children had drowned.

After receiving Anna's telegram, Horatio immediately left Chicago to bring his wife home. On the Atlantic crossing, the captain of his ship called Horatio to his cabin to tell him that they were passing over the spot where his four daughters had perished. It was there that he penned these words;

"When peace like a river, attendeth my way;
  When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
  It is well, it is well with my soul."

He later wrote to Rachel, his wife's half-sister, "On Thursday last we passed over the spot where she went down, in mid-ocean, the waters three miles deep. But I do not think of our dear ones there. They are safe, folded, the dear lambs."

Horatio wrote this hymn, still sung today, as he passed over their watery grave.

The Pantheon

Feel free to send us photos of you doing some radical (e.g. rollerblading The Great Wall of China, riding your bike off a sweet jump, walking on the moon, or even just walking your dog..) while wearing a shirt and we'll put together an album of them. Send them to info@hegreaterthani.com. Do it.

HE>i Lei Stand

Graduation season is in full swing and in Hawaii that means buying/making tons of leis. Thankfully we know a plumeria whiz named Jim Little (father to the world famous shore break photographer, Clark Little). Jim is the brain behind 'Jim Little Nursery & Farms' above the Kawailoa dump on the North Shore of Oahu. Jimbo let us in to do a quick flower raid this morning before the sun got too scorching. Our shop temporarily turned into a lei stand (similar to the ones at the Honolulu airport) for the day. After a few hours and more than a few pricks from the massive lei needles, we had 32 fresh plumeria leis in the bag. Some very fortunate seniors will be smelling quite nice at Kahuku's graduation tonight. Congrats class of 2011!

Ranger Brett (see Best Ranger Competition posts) recently exposed me to some brilliant sleeping/reading/thinking/anythingelseyoucanthinkof music. This video is like an iTunes/WMP visualizer made of never-ending colorful smoke bombs. Go ahead and watch it a few times consecutively.. it's like a massage for your brain.

Shaka brah!

The man/myth/legend/, CPT Scotty Smiley, at Catalyst Dallas yesterday. I read some amazing tweets this morning about how stoked and encouraged people were to hear him speak. Something about a standing ovation before he even said a word, and again after he was done. I wish I had been there to see it. See the list of other main speakers here.

One day's worth of sand on the shop floor. Not even mad though.. that's awesome. Lucky we live Hawaii!

Aloha Sunday's Grand Opening

Wish I could teleport to San Diego for the weekend. Go check out our friend Kahana's new endeavor.
